A golden-yellow ant with unusually long legs, the Yellow Crazy Ant grows fast and looks striking, but its rapid expansion makes it an advanced-keeper species, not one for beginners.

Keeping it

Requires large setups with escape-proof barriers. Provide a continuous supply of sugars and proteins, while ensuring high humidity and excellent ventilation to disperse trapped formic acid.

Where the difficulty is

Explosive population growth makes long-term containment difficult; in confined or poorly ventilated nests, their own sprayed acid can be deadly to the colony.

Fun fact

Their acid spraying has devastated native wildlife on Christmas Island, severely reducing the iconic red crab population and altering the local ecosystem.
